Date night is an important part of your family’s happiness. If you take time to build your relationship and be happy, your children will benefit and feel more secure. Parents are often worried about making everyone else in the family happy and forget about their own connection with one another. Never stop dating, parents! Go out and spend time together, or schedule some alone time at home. Below are a few ideas for spending time together.
Head to the Bookstore or Library
You can browse for books and find something that allows you to relax at home. Most bookstores and some libraries also have a coffee shop or café in them, so you can grab a dessert or drink to share while talking! You could also sit and enjoy your books together while you’re away from home.
Game Night – Date Night In
Pull out some good old-fashioned games like Uno, Scrabble or Monopoly and play away! Just don’t let competitiveness get the best of you!
Spend Time Outside
There are many benefits to spending time in nature. Grab your bikes and go for a ride! Don’t own bikes? Go for a walk; explore outside, and your town. You can often find parks and nature trails too!
We recognize that date night can’t be possible without a sitter. Trying to find a sitter can be difficult sometimes. If you are able to rely on a close friend or grandparents, you should. If you do not have that option, try care.com to find a trustworthy professional that is suitable for your family. The YMCA also has a monthly Parents Night Out for both members and non-members (locations, dates, times, and pricing vary so be sure to check out your local YMCA). If you need more date night ideas or help finding a sitter, don’t hesitate to reach out to our Family Support Navigator team at navigation@familyfutures.net. Never stop dating!
